The First Threshold

The way in · this October

The First Threshold.

Before a man is asked to walk a long road, he is offered a single evening — to feel what this is, and to decide, from the inside, whether it is his.

This October

One unhurried gathering. Nothing asked but presence.

This October the work opens, not with a course or a launch, but with a single evening. It is the shortest honest distance between everything written here and a man actually sitting in the circle. Its purpose is not to move you, and not to sign you up. It is to let you feel the rhythm, the seriousness and the unforced quiet of the work — and to know for yourself whether the deeper passage is yours to walk.

Most men here, asked honestly, will tell you they have nowhere to take what they carry — and that the last place they would try is a room full of other men. This evening is built to be the exception: quiet, confidential, and free of the pressure to perform for anyone.

What happens

It begins the way every gathering begins — with arrival.

There is no institutional welcome, no slideshow, no one hurrying to impress you. There are chairs in a circle and no head of the table. You are invited, without pressure, to sit, to breathe, and to arrive.

From there: a single image, or one living question — nothing dense, nothing to master. Real silence, and time to stay with it privately, before anyone is asked to speak. An invitation to say something of your own, if you wish — and the full freedom not to. A little language, offered late and lightly, only to name what you have already felt. And at the end, not a pitch, but one quiet thing to carry into ordinary life in the days that follow.

A man should leave not overwhelmed, but quietly arrested.

What it is not

Its whole credibility rests on restraint.

It is not a dramatic initiation, an emotional-breakthrough workshop, a retreat compressed into a few hours, or a display of anyone’s charisma. You will not be worked on. You will be accompanied for one evening, and left entirely free to walk toward the work, or away from it, with nothing owed.

The invitation

If something here recognises you, come and sit.

The evening is for men who sense that the old way is not carrying them as it once did — and who would rather feel the ground of this work than read another word about it. Nothing is asked of you but honesty, and a willingness to be quiet in company for a while. What is said in the circle stays in the circle; that is not a slogan but the first promise, because when Caribbean men were asked what they most needed, a place to speak that would not be repeated came before everything else.

It is held on the evening of Thursday, 29 October, at half past seven, at 360 Wellness by Novamed, in Warrens. Places are few, and kept so on purpose; reach out, and we will hold one for you.

The room teaches before anyone says a word. One evening is enough to feel whether it is true.
